Seamanship Library – Standalone Version

The Standalone eBook Reader is free to download. eBooks can be purchased from our online store. A selection of free eBooks are also available.

To begin, please download and install a copy of our free eBook Reader if you have not already done so.

Once the 'InstallReader.exe' file has downloaded, please run it and follow the steps to install the eBook Reader.

Once installed, open the eBook Reader from the desktop shortcut.

The eBook Reader is now installed, but currently contains no eBooks. The next step is to download, install, and unlock your purchased eBooks.

Click the ‘Import Book’ button.

The ‘Import eBooks’ window will open. Make sure that the ‘Download from the Internet’ button is selected. Enter your READ code in the circled box and select ‘Download, Install and Unlock’.

Your purchased eBook(s) will begin to download and install.

Once installation is complete, click ‘OK’.

Read the messages that appear and click ‘OK’.

The ‘Unlock the eBook’ window will appear. Your READ code should already be present in the box labelled ‘Licence Code’. Enter your email address in the box labelled ‘E-mail address’ and click ‘Unlock’.

Your eBook(s) should now be unlocked.


Licensing


Purchasing a Standalone eBook Licence supplies the user with one main 'Unlock' and one backup 'Unlock'. This allows for the eBook to be unlocked on one PC for general use. The backup should be retained for use if the original PC fails or is replaced.

System Requirements


  • Windows XP SP2/SP3 / Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8, 8.1, 8.1 update (except RT Tablets) / Windows 10 Operating System (32 bits or 64 bits)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0 or 3.5 (preinstalled in Vista/Windows 7, otherwise installed by the program)
  • Hard Disc space required by the program: approximately 100 MB
  • Hard Disc space required by each eBook: approximately 1 MB to 50 MB depending on the content (average size = 5 MB)
  • Minimum 1024 x 768 resolution.

Remote Desktop Services (Terminal Services) and virtual environments are not supported.

Note for Mac Users

Mac users can only use the Standalone eBook Reader by using Boot Camp or virtual machines such as Parallels Desktop or Virtual Box to simulate a Windows environment. The Standalone eBook Reader cannot be installed directly on a Mac.

Note for Linux Users

Linux users can only use the Standalone eBook Reader by using virtual machines such as Virtual Box to simulate a Windows environment. The Standalone eBook Reader cannot be installed directly on a Linux machine.
